SEC discusses potential reprimand for LSU coach over interview comments
Conference officials have discussed a possible public reprimand or fine for the coach after comments in a Vanity Fair interview. The coach maintains the remarks were not racially insensitive and said parents have praised campus diversity at LSU.
Usa TodayConference officials have discussed a possible public reprimand or fine for LSU coach Lane Kiffin after comments he made in a recent Vanity Fair interview about recruiting differences between Ole Miss and LSU. Kiffin coached at Ole Miss from 2020 to 2025.
He told USA TODAY Sports that people misread his remarks and that parents visiting the LSU campus this weekend said its diversity felt positive.
Conference meetings Any potential sanctions will be discussed further this week during the conference's spring meetings. Officials said the meetings will also address whether the conference should create its own enforcement rules if Congress does not pass federal legislation on college sports issues.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said in March that schools signed up for NCAA rules but then sue when they disagree with them. Officials noted that private name, image and likeness deals remain largely unchecked. Kiffin said the phrase "Baton Rouge, Louisiana" does not carry the same recruiting implications as references to Ole Miss.
