Second South Korean-operated vessel exits Strait of Hormuz
A liquefied natural gas carrier with eight Korean crew members passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. The transit reduced the number of South Korean vessels still in the strait to 24 and lowered the count of Korean sailors from 147 to 139.
YonhapA liquefied natural gas carrier operated by a South Korean shipping company under charter to a foreign party completed passage through the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said the vessel carried eight Korean crew members and is bound for a destination other than South Korea. Details of the ship, the operator, and the charterer were not released.
Previous transit Last month, the oil tanker Universal Winner, operated by HMM, became the first South Korean vessel to exit the strait. It docked in Ulsan on Wednesday carrying two million barrels of crude oil. The ministry reported that the number of South Korean vessels remaining in the strait fell to 24 from 25 after the latest transit, while the number of Korean sailors dropped to 139 from 147.
Diplomatic efforts The foreign ministry said it has stressed to Iranian authorities the need for swift and safe navigation for all vessels, including South Korean ones. Officials added that communication with relevant countries continues.
