Secretary of State Says Vice President’s Role Shows Administration Priority on Iran Talks

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Thursday that Vice President JD Vance’s involvement in Iran negotiations shows the priority the administration places on the topic. Rubio made the comments while in Bahrain during an interview with CBS News’ @Olivia_Gazis. He was responding to a question about whether he sought a larger part in the talks.

“The vice president is the second ranking person in our government,” Rubio said. “It just shows you how seriously we take that endeavor.” He added that “we all have a role to play” and that Vance’s participation “tells you the importance that our administration has given to this topic.” The statements came as U.S. officials continue diplomatic efforts regarding Iran.
