Sega Announces Virtua Fighter Crossroads, a Narrative-Driven Game by RGG Studio Launching in 2027
Virtua Fighter Crossroads places four new protagonists in the fictional Southeast Asian city of Vilasapara and mixes story choices with one-on-one fights.
EngadgetSega announced Virtua Fighter Crossroads, a new narrative-driven fighting game developed by RGG Studio that will launch in 2027. The title is set in the fictional city of Vilasapara in Southeast Asia and follows four new protagonists, each tied to a distinct thematic element that shapes story tone and gameplay style, producer Riichiro Yamada said.
One protagonist follows a film-noir theme while another, Cielo, begins as a young fighter caught up in trouble and later runs a restaurant as part of his chapter.
Players start from humble beginnings rather than as established fighters, and decisions plus relationships determine how the story unfolds, Engadget reported. Several characters from earlier Virtua Fighter games appear, including Pai Chan, who defeats multiple mafia goons in the reveal trailer before telling Cielo he has much to learn.
The game is described by the RGG Studio team as far more grounded than the Yakuza series, with minigames and activities that reflect that tone.
During fights the camera switches from an over-the-shoulder view to a side-on fighting perspective, and damage that accumulates on one body part persists for the rest of the match. Stun attacks receive greater emphasis, while controls stay limited to one punch button, one kick button, and one defend button.
Yamada said the single-player campaign is intended to teach players how to play Virtua Fighter beyond the story sequences themselves.
Engadget reported that the project aims to reach audiences beyond the series’ traditional niche by combining cinematic storytelling with the established fighting system.
