Sen. Mitch McConnell Continues Recovery, Will Not Vote This Week

Sen. Mitch McConnell is continuing to recover from a recent hospitalization and will not cast votes this week, his spokesman said. The 84-year-old lawmaker was admitted earlier this month. The reason for the stay has not been disclosed.
McConnell has experienced multiple health episodes in recent years. He was hospitalized for eight days earlier this year after reporting flu-like symptoms. He fell and sprained his wrist in December 2024. In March 2023 he suffered a concussion that kept him out of the Senate for several weeks.
After returning from the 2023 concussion, McConnell twice froze during news conferences that summer. Colleagues and staff assisted him on both occasions. He has acknowledged difficulty walking and climbing stairs since contracting polio as a child. He also tripped at his Kentucky home in 2019 and underwent shoulder surgery after the fall.
“Senator McConnell is still working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery. However, he will not be voting this week.”
