Sen. Mitch McConnell Hospitalized Sunday Morning
The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican was admitted to a hospital on Sunday. His spokesperson said he is receiving excellent care but released no details on the reason or condition.
Nbc NewsSen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a hospital Sunday morning. Spokesperson David Popp said, “Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. ” The statement gave no information on the cause of the admission or the senator’s condition.
McConnell, 84, a Republican from Kentucky, voted on the two Senate roll calls held Thursday, according to Senate records. He chairs the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on defense and remains active during his final term, which ends in January 2027. McConnell was first elected to the Senate in 1984 and served as Republican leader from 2007 until early 2025.
He is the third-oldest member of the Senate. The senator was hospitalized for over a week earlier this year after flu-like symptoms. In December 2024 he fell and sprained his wrist after a GOP luncheon.
In March 2023 he tripped at a Washington dinner event and was hospitalized with a concussion and broken ribs. He froze midsentence during a July 2023 news conference and suffered at least two additional falls that year. A childhood polio survivor, McConnell has used a wheelchair to navigate the Capitol complex.
