Sen. Rand Paul Schedules Fauci Testimony on Gain-of-Function Research for July 29

Sen. Rand Paul announced Monday that Dr. Anthony Fauci is scheduled to testify July 29 before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. The hearing will address Fauci’s role in gain-of-function research funding connected to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Washington Examiner reported.

Paul posted on X that Fauci has obfuscated his role in funding gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab. He added that his investigation uncovered how Fauci manipulated intelligence community connections to alter the narrative on COVID’s origins, and that the committee will confront Fauci with the truth on July 29.

MAHA Action, a nonprofit group associated with the Make America Healthy Again movement, stated that after years of questions surrounding Fauci’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and new evidence of his direct role in funding research at the Wuhan lab, he will face public questioning before Congress.

Fauci has testified before Congress multiple times since the COVID-19 outbreak. In past hearings Paul has questioned him about bat coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The lab received funding from EcoHealth Alliance, which was first awarded an NIAID grant in 2014.

Paul has released declassified documents regarding Fauci’s ties to the intelligence community. Before she left office last month, former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released declassified documents showing that Fauci misled U.S. spy agencies into discounting the lab-leak theory.

Also on Monday, Sen. Roger Marshall asked acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to appoint a special counsel to investigate Fauci for his faulty guidance. Marshall called for a review of Fauci’s pardon issued by former President Joe Biden on his last day in office in January 2025, questioning whether the autopen-signed pardon makes the clemency action illegitimate.
