The Senate Commerce Committee voted 19-9 to advance the Protect College Sports Act to the Senate floor, Fox News reported. Sens. Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell unveiled the bipartisan measure, which Texas Tech Board of Regents Chairman Cody Campbell helped craft.
New York Yankees president Randy Levine, who serves on President Donald Trump's college athletics roundtable, joined Campbell for a media call hours after the vote. " The bill's anti-expansion provision bars conferences generating $700 million or more in revenue from forming new leagues outside the NCAA.
The SEC and Big Ten issued a joint statement saying they had identified essential revisions to the PCSA that have not been accepted.
Levine stated that the two conferences tried to "sink the bill" before the committee vote.
