Senate considers replacements for late senator's committee assignments

Committee assignments under review The Republican who leads the Committee on Committees referred questions about the vacancies to the Senate majority leader. The majority leader and the committee chair plan to discuss the assignments, though no timeline has been set.

The most senior Republican on the Budget Committee without a chairmanship is positioned to receive the panel's top post. "Those are important things to talk about, but right now we're talking about Lindsey," the Republican who leads the Committee on Committees told Semafor.

"Some things have to happen rather quickly, but [Leader John] Thune and I will discuss that — it may be very soon on some things.
