Allegations of misconduct against an unnamed senator were sent to the Senate Ethics Committee on Thursday following a public announcement by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna. Separately, two former House members resigned this week amid sexual misconduct allegations. Senate leaders confirmed referral of the new allegations to ethics authorities.
The allegations were publicly announced on Wednesday night by a representative, who called on Thune to investigate the matter. The representative wrote on X, "[Senate Majority Leader John Thune] You need to look into the allegations against one of your Senators, it’s very disturbing."
Fox News Digital reached out for comment from the representative’s office and the Senate Ethics Committee but did not immediately receive responses.
The new allegations come amid recent resignations of two former House members amid sexual misconduct claims.
A former representative resigned on Tuesday shortly after ending his gubernatorial campaign. A report from The San Francisco Chronicle last week alleged the former representative sexually assaulted a former staffer, and since then, five women have accused him of sexual misconduct and rape.
Also on Tuesday, former Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, resigned after admitting to an affair with a former staffer who later died by setting herself on fire. Gonzales has not acknowledged a second allegation of sexual misconduct.
A senator commented on the broader issue, saying lawmakers need to improve the 2018 revamp of conduct and reporting rules. Congress passed a significant overhaul of sexual harassment reporting and accountability procedures in 2018, the same year the #MeToo movement began.
