Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley and Senate Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Ron Johnson released findings Tuesday evening showing that former special counsel Jack Smith's investigation obtained text messages from 44 members of Congress.
Fox News reported that the records were provided by the Trump Justice Department and indicated Smith's team bypassed its own filter review process. The code name for the investigation into President Trump was Operation Arctic Frost.
A filter team was tasked with reviewing millions of documents to determine relevance or privilege issues before the messages were obtained. Grassley stated that Biden DOJ and FBI investigators ignored their own routine investigative protocols to obtain and review work-related messages from him and dozens of colleagues outside the scope of the investigation.
Johnson described the situation as a "grotesque example" of Biden-era weaponization of the executive branch.
