Senator criticizes Qatar’s role in U.S.-Iran talks

Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida said on Sunday that Qatar is not a friend of the United States and questioned its role in talks between Washington and Tehran. ” He pointed to Qatar’s financial relationship with Iran and noted that Iranian missiles have struck Qatari sites since the U.S. and Israel began military action against Iran in February.

Qatar’s participation in talks Earlier this month, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani attended peace talks in Bürgenstock, Switzerland. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he thanked the Qatari leader for supporting the negotiations.

Scott also highlighted Qatar’s position as the largest foreign donor to American universities. He stated that the funding creates dependency and allows Qatar to influence research and policy. Scott posted similar remarks on social media two days before the interview, linking Qatar’s donations to efforts to promote non-democratic governments and criticize Jews and Christians in the Middle East.
