Senator Mark Kelly Says US Munitions Depleted After Iran Conflict
Democratic Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona said it may take years to replenish US munitions stocks following the war with Iran. Kelly stated that the US has expended a large quantity of munitions, which he said leaves American forces less prepared for potential conflicts elsewhere.
middleeasteye.netKelly told CBS News that replenishing those stocks may take years. "It’s shocking how deep we have gone into these magazines, because this president got our country into this without a strategic goal, without a plan, without a timeline," Kelly said.
He added that the expenditure "means the American people are less safe" if a conflict arises in the western Pacific with China or elsewhere. President Trump said the United States will not allow Iran to reach its highly enriched uranium, which is believed to be buried under rubble from damaged nuclear facilities.
In an interview that aired Sunday, Trump stated the material remains under constant US military surveillance. "We’ll get that at some point, whenever we want. We have it surveilled," Trump said. " Trump also accused Iran of "playing games" with the United States and the rest of the world for 47 years.
He made the statement on Truth Social in his first public comment since Iran responded to a US ceasefire proposal. Riyadh called for an immediate halt to such actions and any attempt to close the strait. Kuwait reported hostile drones in its airspace, while Qatar said a cargo ship was targeted in its territorial waters.
Iranian diplomat Kazem Gharibabadi warned that deployment of European warships in the Strait of Hormuz would be unlawful and would meet a decisive response. French President Emmanuel Macron said Paris has never considered deploying naval forces to the strait and instead supports a coordinated security approach that includes Iran.
Netanyahu said the war with Iran is not over and that Tehran’s nuclear materials, enrichment sites and proxies must be dismantled. Israeli air raids continued to target towns in southern Lebanon, including areas in the Nabatieh and Tyre districts. Hezbollah announced multiple attacks on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon in the past day, including drone strikes, a suicide attack and strikes on military equipment and gatherings.
The Trump administration is open to suspending the federal gas tax to lower prices at the pump, Energy Secretary Chris Wright told NBC News programme Meet the Press.
