Two U.S. senators arranged private sponsorship for a Pennsylvania exhibit at the Great American State Fair after the governor withdrew state participation. The 16-day event runs through July 10 in Washington, D.C.
washingtonpost.comSen. Dave McCormick and Sen. John Fetterman arranged private sponsors to place a Pennsylvania booth at the Great American State Fair after Gov. Josh Shapiro withdrew state involvement. The senators said the booth would be funded at no cost to taxpayers.
Shapiro stated last week that companies in Pennsylvania showed no interest in participating. McCormick and Fetterman secured sponsorships from the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.
The booth will display artifacts highlighting Pennsylvania’s role in American history. Sponsors cited the state’s place in the nation’s founding as their reason for participating. McCormick posted a video showing the completed exhibit. His chief of staff, Mark Isakowitz, said the booth is the “nicest booth” on the National Mall and described the effort as a volunteer citizens’ project.
The fair is organized by Freedom 250, a private-public group created to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. Pennsylvania’s booth will remain open to visitors through July 10.
