The president of Senegal arrived in The Gambia on Saturday for his first official state visit since a political change involving his former ally. The one-day trip included a private bilateral meeting in Banjul. Officials from both countries refrained from holding a joint press briefing after the session.

Discussions centered on strengthening cooperation and reviewing existing agreements signed since 2017. These include a security hotspot agreement addressing cross-border challenges, as well as accords on economic development, infrastructure, and cultural exchange.

Reliable sources told The Point that the Senegalese leader briefed his counterpart on the political situation in Senegal. The two sides also discussed regional security matters, particularly threats from jihadist groups, along with energy cooperation, border management, transport, and trade.

The Senegalese leader asked for Gambia's support in Senegal's bid for the ECOWAS presidency as the current term ends. The visit concluded with a stated commitment to deepening cooperation on shared challenges.
