Serious Collisions Close Sections of M54, A52 and A45

A car left the carriageway on the M54 eastbound between Junction 3 at Albrighton and Junction 2 at Wolverhampton in Shropshire, triggering a full closure of that section due to a serious collision. West Mercia Police are attending the scene, supported by traffic officers from National Highways. The M54 eastbound closure between J3 and J2 is expected to remain in place for several hours.

Road users on the eastbound carriageway have been advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol on road signs. The diversion route requires drivers to exit at Junction 3, head north on the A41, head east on the A5, then head south on the A449 to return to the M54 at Junction 2.

Motorists in Nottinghamshire faced similar disruption after the A52 was closed in both directions between the A6011 at Gamston and the A46 at Saxondale following a serious collision.

Nottinghamshire Police are in attendance at the A52 collision scene, while traffic officers are assisting with the management of congestion on the closed A52. Traffic maps from National Highways suggest that the A52 event is not expected to clear until at least 2:45pm on 2026-05-16.

Eastbound traffic on the A52 is being diverted via a detailed route that begins by exiting the A52 Gamston Island onto the A6011 towards Nottingham.

5km to Lowdham roundabout, take the last exit onto the A6097 to the A46 roundabout, and finally take the A46 southbound to rejoin the eastbound A52 at Saxondale Island. Westbound traffic follows a separate diversion: exit the A46 westbound at Saxondale roundabout, turn right onto the A46 northbound, take the first exit onto the A6097 at the next roundabout, continue to Lowdham roundabout, turn left onto the A612 towards Nottingham, take the first exit onto the A6011 at the A612/A6011 roundabout, then turn left onto Lady Bay Bridge to re-join the A52 westbound.

In Northamptonshire, a serious collision prompted the closure of the A45 eastbound between the A509 at Little Irchester and the A5001 at Rushden.
