Severe Thunderstorm Watches Issued for Northwestern Ontario

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued severe thunderstorm watches for much of northwestern Ontario on Monday afternoon. The yellow-level watches cover the period from late Monday afternoon through the evening and warn of wind gusts reaching 110 kilometres per hour and hail up to ping-pong ball size.

The watches state that utility outages are possible and advise residents to secure loose objects and seek shelter in a basement or interior room if threatening weather approaches.

People outside are told to protect themselves from flying debris and hail. Affected communities include Armstrong, Atikokan, the City of Thunder Bay, Dryden, Fort Frances, Ignace, Nipigon, Pickle Lake, Sioux Lookout, and Webequie, along with surrounding areas and parks. ca or by using the hashtag #ONStorm on social media.
