Jones grew up in Wichita, Kansas, as one of five siblings.
She attended Northwestern University after high school. She met her husband, Uche Ojeh, at the university. They married in 2007 and had three children: Kayin, 16, and 13-year-old twins Clara and Uche Jr. Ojeh died of cancer last year at age 45. Jones has discussed raising the children as a single parent.
Jones said her 'Today' co-workers have helped her since her husband's death. She named Dylan Dreyer, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, Willie Geist, and Carson Daly as sources of support.
