Shohei Ohtani Exits Early with Biceps Tightness in Dodgers Win Over Padres

Shohei Ohtani threw a season-high 110 pitches before exiting in the seventh inning when his right biceps tightened on a swing during the Los Angeles Dodgers' 4-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday. ESPN reported that Ohtani pitched on nine days' rest and struggled with command early, throwing his first six pitches for balls and allowing nine baserunners across six innings.

He struck out nine batters, permitted three runs and maintained his fastball velocity in the triple digits deep into the outing.

Teoscar Hernández delivered a game-winning grand slam in the seventh inning. Miguel Rojas pinch-hit for Ohtani after the homer. Ohtani said through an interpreter that he dealt with a similar right biceps issue a couple months ago.

The Dodgers will hold Ohtani out of the lineup on Saturday. Manager Dave Roberts described the decision as precautionary and noted that Ohtani had an ice pack on his left knee after the game but said the knee did not bother him while throwing. Attendance at the game was 49,578.
