Voters in six states, including California, participate in primary elections on Tuesday. California's governor's race is open because term limits prevent incumbent Gov. Gavin Newsom from running again. Candidates include Republican Steve Hilton, Democrat Xavier Becerra, and Democrat Tom Steyer, who are currently leading in polls.

Hilton has received an endorsement from President Trump. Becerra previously served as health secretary under former President Biden. Steyer has spent more than $195 million on advertising, the highest amount reported for any political campaign this year.

Former Rep. Eric Swalwell withdrew from the race in April after allegations of sexual assault. Former Rep. Katie Porter has fallen in recent polls after two public incidents. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa are also on the ballot.

Angeles voters are also choosing a mayor.

Incumbent Mayor Karen Bass faces reality television star Spencer Pratt and Los Angeles Councilwoman Nithya Raman. A UC Berkeley-LA Times poll from May 28 showed Bass at 26 percent, Raman at 25 percent, and Pratt at 22 percent.

California congressional primaries include contests involving Reps.

Young Kim and Ken Calvert in the new CA-40 district. In San Francisco, candidates seek to succeed former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the 11th District. In Iowa, Republicans select a nominee in an open governor's race. Three-term U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra is viewed as a frontrunner and received an endorsement from President Trump on Friday.
