Natura Life Sciences produced 40,000 Sluggers pre-rolls daily at its Sacramento facility last year, generating $60 million in revenue for the brand. The company is on track to reach $85 million by the end of 2026. Sluggers sells its top product, a five-pack of pre-rolls in a tin containing an eighth of an ounce of cannabis and a collectible card, for $25 to $50 depending on strain.

Trading-card collections from the line have second-market asking prices between $150 and $1,000 on eBay. The brand ranks fifth among pre-roll products in California. Sluggers expanded through licensing deals to Canada, Arizona, New York and Massachusetts, and will add Maryland, New Jersey and New Mexico this year.

Natura grows 80,000 pounds of cannabis annually inside 18 glass-ceilinged greenhouses on a 12-acre industrial campus. The facility includes an extraction lab, an industrial kitchen and manufacturing rooms, and totals more than 200,000 square feet of cultivation space. The company invested about $90 million to build the site.

Sluggers pre-rolls use flower from 30 in-house strains and high-quality concentrates rather than trim. Cofounder Seth Sznapstajler said the approach treats pre-rolls as “craft sausage or Hebrew National,” not the historical “hotdog” method of using lower-grade inputs.

About 20 percent of Natura’s revenue comes from white-label manufacturing for other brands; the remainder comes from its own lines, including Sluggers, Dee, Lola and Iced.

Sluggers originated after Berner suggested the name during a conversation with cofounder Josh Schmidt about the success of Jeeter and Stiiizy. The first batch sold out in a day in 2021 and generated re-orders within a week, CEO Ori Bytton said. Bytton, 40, previously sold his solar company Canopy Energy in 2015.

He later formed a cannabis real-estate fund with Barry Shy and, in 2019, began building Natura Life Sciences. Schmidt, who opened a medical-marijuana dispensary in Van Nuys in 2005, joined after meeting Bytton at the construction site. Seth Sznapstajler, formerly at Greenlane, became the third cofounder.

Pre-rolls overtook flower as the top-selling cannabis category by units sold. 4 percent to 378 million, according to Headset data. 75 billion for pre-rolls.

Sluggers increased revenue 51 percent last year while the overall pre-roll category grew 9 percent, Headset CEO Cy Scott said.
