M. on Saturday. The object broke apart at high altitude, producing a sonic boom heard across parts of the region, NASA said.

The object continued to Earth rather than burning up entirely and became a meteorite. ” The meteorite came to rest in 100 feet of water. NASA stated that most meteorites are strongly attracted to a magnet and that this one lies within reach of a 100-foot length of rope dangled from a boat.

The agency added on its website that anyone interested in such factoids could attempt recovery. The Independent has reached out to NASA for updates. NASA confirmed the meteorite was a natural object, not a satellite or space debris.

Several New England residents recorded videos of the loud booms that shook their homes. ” Robert Lunsford of the American Meteor Society said the organization received dozens of reports from Delaware to Montreal of people hearing a boom, feeling the ground shake, or seeing a fireball. The reports were noted by the Associated Press.
