The IndependentSoftBank Group Corp. announced Tuesday a cybersecurity service that uses OpenAI technology to diagnose and patch vulnerabilities at Japan’s top 3,000 companies that operate critical infrastructure. The announcement came at a presentation in Tokyo.
SoftBank will first scan each company for weaknesses and then determine the fixes required to close those “holes,” Son said. The service targets sectors that include airports, power systems and transportation. ” Sam Altman, chief of OpenAI, was scheduled to attend but appeared only in a short video.
He said his baby daughter was born earlier than expected. Mark Chen, OpenAI’s chief researcher, attended in his place. SoftBank and OpenAI formed a 50:50 joint venture named SB OAI Japan last year to develop and market an AI service exclusively for the Japanese market.
Tuesday’s event was described as a key update on that venture’s rollout. SoftBank said every attendee at the Tokyo presentation can apply for a free diagnosis. No price for the service was announced.
The companies noted that the use of AI has caused the number of cyberattacks to increase exponentially and become more complex, requiring defenses that are also AI-driven.
