Solar tops coal in U.S. power generation for first time
Solar generation reached 12.8 percent of U.S. electricity output in May while coal fell to 12.2 percent, the first full month solar has led coal. Solar and battery storage made up 91 percent of new U.S. power capacity added in the first quarter of 2026.
