Lee Coates said his father Ian Coates lay untreated for 15 hours after being stabbed by Valdo Calocane in Nottingham. Speaking to Martin Daubney on GB News, Lee Coates called the delay "utterly disgusting" and said it should never have happened regardless of how anyone had fallen.

An inquiry later showed that some officers had asked to continue searching and were told to stand down, according to Lee Coates.

He added that CCTV footage was not properly examined until after the event. Lee Coates said Nottinghamshire Police should apply the same energy they use after an incident to proactive work before attacks occur. He stated that doing so would leave the community in a much better place.

GB News reported the interview on June 8, 2026.
