Sony Files New Lawsuit Against Udio Over 30,000 Songs After Two Other Labels Settle and Partner With Company
Sony Music Entertainment filed a lawsuit in New York court on Monday alleging Udio infringed copyrights on more than 30,000 songs. The action follows a 2024 case limited by a judge and settlements by other major labels with the AI company.

Sony Music Entertainment filed a lawsuit against the AI music generator Udio in a New York court on Monday, accusing the company of infringing copyrights on more than 30,000 of its songs. ” The company identified the additional songs through an “audio fingerprinting” technique after obtaining access to Udio’s training data during discovery in the prior case.
Sony cited Udio’s admission that its generative AI models were “constructed by showing the program a vast amount of different kinds of sound recordings,” including material from YouTube.
In 2024, Sony joined Universal Music Group and Warner Records in suing Udio and Suno. A judge rejected Sony’s motion to add the larger list to that case, leaving its scope at 333 works.
It is asking the court to block Udio from infringing its works and seeking up to $150,000 per work infringed. Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group have settled their claims against Udio and are now partnering with the company. The full list of songs appears in the court filing.
