Sony Releases 1000X The Collexion Headphones at $650
Sony introduced the 1000X The Collexion headphones to mark the tenth anniversary of its original MDR-1000X model. The new headphones feature a stainless steel headband, thicker padding, and a $650 price point.
9to5toys.comSony released the 1000X The Collexion headphones on May 19, 2026. The product marks ten years since the company introduced the MDR-1000X model. The new headphones use stainless steel joints and headband support instead of plastic. Ear cups and headband cushion are wrapped in textured vegan leather. Padding on the headband is 40 percent thicker and 10 percent wider than on the WH-1000XM6.
The ear cup housing is 5 millimeters slimmer than the XM6.
The headphones weigh 320 grams, 67 grams more than the XM6. They do not fold and lie flat when not in use. The case includes a cutout handle and a magnetic clasp. Sony says the design focuses on luxury and comfort rather than folding portability.
Sony installed newly designed 30-millimeter carbon fiber drivers and an updated V3 processor. The company added music and game 360 upmix modes. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours with active noise cancellation enabled. The 1000X use the same QN3 processor and 12-microphone system as the XM6. Passive isolation is reduced because of the thinner ear cups.
Sony priced the headphones at $650.
The company stated the 1000X are a luxury design while the WH-1000XM6 remain the functional model. The 1000X do not replace the XM6.
