The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration reported the figure one week after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a five-point plan. Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi said the government will not tolerate circumvention of immigration laws.
thesouthafrican.comSouth African authorities have repatriated 2,745 foreign nationals to their home countries since President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a five-point plan to address irregular immigration. The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration provided the figure during a media briefing on Sunday, 14 June 2026.
The committee, chaired by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi, said the total is expected to increase as enforcement continues.
Ramaphosa unveiled the plan on 7 June 2026 during a national address. It calls for zero tolerance toward immigration law violators, stronger border security, removal of corruption inside the immigration system, closure of legal loopholes, and cooperation with other African governments. Kubayi said the government will not tolerate the circumvention of immigration systems and laws.
She stated that departments are applying a unified, multi-pronged approach to carry out the strategy. The briefing occurred as anti-foreigner protests have increased in parts of the country. The committee said it is accelerating enforcement measures in response to the protests and renewed public concern over migration.
