The South African Police Service has launched a high-level investigation after Major General Feroz Khan was shot Sunday evening on 3rd Avenue in Houghton. The Gauteng Hawks, Gauteng Crime Intelligence, and SAPS Detective Service are leading the probe. The Acting National Commissioner directed that the Political Killings Task Team join the effort to pursue every lead.
General Khan was scheduled to appear before the Madlanga Commission on 1 July 2026. Police stated it is premature to link the attack to that appearance. The Acting National Commissioner, Lt Gen Puleng Dimpane, condemned the shooting and said no resources will be spared to identify and arrest those responsible.
She also wished Major General Khan a speedy recovery. The service said any attempt to interfere with judicial processes will be treated with the full force of the law.
