Health and social welfare services added 214,000 jobs year over year. Arts, sports and recreation-related services gained 55,000 positions, and transportation and logistics added 48,000. Manufacturing lost 97,000 jobs, extending a 24-month streak of year-over-year declines.
Agriculture, forestry and fisheries shed 95,000 jobs. The number of economically inactive people increased by 181,000 from a year earlier. Those who said they were not working and simply resting rose by 5,000 to 2.43 million.
