South Korea and Algeria Agree on Direct Air Services After 17-Year Delay

South Korea and Algeria agreed to establish direct air services and designate traffic rights between the two countries, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Monday. The two sides settled on rights for as many as four weekly passenger and cargo flights. The agreement was announced July 20, 2026.
The countries had signed an air services agreement in January 2005 that took effect in July 2009. No direct flights followed because the two sides never negotiated traffic rights. South Korea currently runs only one direct route to Africa, the Incheon-Addis Ababa service to Ethiopia.
The ministry said the new rights will draw passengers traveling to South Korea from Algeria and from other parts of Africa and some Mediterranean countries. A photograph taken June 16, 2026, showed aircraft on the apron at Incheon International Airport west of Seoul.
