Seoul unveiled the Jang Bogo-N project on May 26 to build its first nuclear-powered attack submarine, with launch planned for the mid-2030s.
South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense announced the Basic Plan for the Development of South Korean Nuclear-Propelled Submarines on May 26. The effort is named the Jang Bogo-N project after the country’s first submarine, which was built in Germany and commissioned in 1992. The plan calls for the first boat to launch in the mid-2030s and enter service in the late 2030s.
