South Korea's budget minister met Monday with the leader of a major labor federation to gather input for the 2027 national budget. Budget Minister Park Hong-keun spoke with Federation of Korean Trade Unions President Kim Dong-myeong at the Ministry of Planning and Budget, Yonhap reported. The session formed part of ongoing government outreach to labor groups ahead of final budget decisions.
Park said the government is working to reduce labor market gaps and reduce job insecurity for non-regular public sector workers. He added that the ministry seeks to strengthen the social safety net while preserving fiscal balance amid low birth rates, population aging and AI-driven industrial shifts.
The minister said officials will review steps to improve worker conditions as they prepare the 2027 budget.
Park also pledged continued talks with labor and other groups and expanded spending to raise working standards and reinforce safety nets. Park made the remarks during the Monday meeting, which followed an earlier appearance he made July 16 at the ministry headquarters in Sejong.
