South Korea Extends Special Support Law for U.S. Base City of Pyeongtaek Until 2030

The government approved a four-year extension of a special law supporting Pyeongtaek, home to the largest U.S. military base in South Korea. The revision was promulgated June 9, 2026.

U.S. military base in South Korea, the defense ministry said Tuesday. The revision to the law was promulgated on June 9, 2026, following its approval in a Cabinet meeting one week earlier, the ministry said in a press release.

U.S. bases to the city. The law was originally set to expire at the end of 2014.

It has been extended three times previously, in 2011, 2017 and 2020. With the latest extension, the law will now expire at the end of 2030. S.
