upi.comSouth Korea’s labor minister said companies like Samsung Electronics that beat profit targets should share excess gains with suppliers, subcontractors and their workers after taxes. Kim Young-hoon made the remarks in an interview published June 5, 2026. He said the unprecedented chip-sector gains from the AI boom risked widening inequality.
The minister called on major tech firms to share the spoils of their windfall profits. He added that the government, businesses, unions and suppliers should hold a public dialogue on how to distribute “excess profits” and close the gap between large conglomerates and smaller suppliers.
The interview was conducted by Reuters reporters Heejin Kim and Hyunjoo Jin.
