South Korea to Launch AI Insurance Fraud Detection System in 2026 as Fraud Exceeds 1 Trillion Won

upi.comSouth Korea's Financial Services Commission plans to set up an artificial intelligence-based insurance fraud prevention system in 2026. The regulator said Thursday it has launched a task force to develop the system. The task force is scheduled to be set up in September 2026 at the earliest.
The commission stated the planned system will respond to AI and deepfake-based insurance fraud and help detect new types of fraud cases. 15 trillion won worth of insurance fraud cases were detected. That amount equals US$753 million.
The total figure for insurance fraud cases including undetected cases may reach 9 trillion won, according to the commission. Yonhap reported the announcement from Seoul on June 4.
