South Korea and the United States conducted their first joint tabletop exercise on coordinating wartime information operations on Friday. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff and United States Forces Korea ran the drill at the JCS headquarters in Yongsan. The United Nations Command and the South Korea-U.S.
Combined Forces Command also took part. South Korean government agencies joined the session, including the defense, foreign and culture ministries. Yonhap reported that the event marked the first multi-agency exercise focused on disinformation.
The exercise centered on synchronizing operations in the information environment. It addressed three lines of joint response: countering foreign disinformation, synchronizing allied actions across multiple domains and aligning strategic communications. "Ensuring the ROK-U.S.
Alliance, alongside our multilateral partners, can maneuver decisively in the information environment is a strategic priority," USFK said in a press release.
