SEOUL (Substrate) -- Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held a phone call with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Wednesday to discuss regional developments and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, Yonhap reported, citing the South Korean foreign ministry.

During the conversation, Cho expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan's support and assistance in evacuating South Korean nationals from the Middle East last year amid escalating tensions there. In June last year, tensions between Iran and Israel raised fears of a broader conflict, prompting the evacuation of dozens of South Koreans from parts of the region.

Cho asked for continued attention and cooperation from Azerbaijan in ensuring the safety of South Koreans in light of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. The two ministers shared the view on the importance of developing mutually beneficial relations and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as high-level exchanges and substantive collaboration.
