Outstanding household loans at South Korea's five major banks rose by 4.137 trillion won in June to 774.96 trillion won, Yonhap reported on July 1. The increase was the largest monthly gain since July 2025, when loans rose by 4.138 trillion won. The five banks are KB Kookmin Bank, Shinhan Bank, Hana Bank, Woori Bank and NH Nonghyup Bank.
Unsecured credit loans drove most of the growth, rising 2.16 trillion won as investors borrowed to buy stocks during a market rally. Mortgage loans also contributed, climbing 1.76 trillion won to a record 615.15 trillion won. Rising home prices and higher transaction volumes supported demand for mortgage borrowing, according to the data compiled by the banks.
