Japan TimesSouth Korean riot police cleared protesters from a Seoul polling station on Friday after demonstrators blocked access for 35 hours. The blockade began after a shortage of ballot papers forced several polling stations to extend voting during local elections held earlier in the week.
Wednesday's election marked the first nationwide vote since President Lee Jae Myung took office following the removal of Yoon Suk Yeol over his short-lived martial law declaration. Lee's ruling Democratic Party won most races but did not capture the Seoul mayoral seat.
Police gathered outside the Songpa District polling station to disperse the remaining demonstrators after the voting extension concluded.
