yna.co.krThe Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office raided Kunsan Air Base in Gunsan on June 11 and searched the home of a local employee as part of a fraud investigation. The worker is accused of buying maintenance materials from an electronic supplier at above-market prices between 2021 and 2023 and keeping part of the difference.
Prosecutors estimate the scheme produced about 240 million won, or US$157,000, in improper gains.
S. 8th Fighter Wing. A prosecution official said investigators were collecting evidence tied to suspicions that a contract supervisor accepted corrupt benefits, but declined to provide further details of the active inquiry.
The raid marks the first public action in the probe into the local employee's dealings at the base.
