He traveled with his son, who is a first officer for Southwest Airlines and informed the pilots that the trip should have been his father's retirement flight.
Southwest Airlines stated that the flight's pilots seized the opportunity to change the course of the day for Captain Jon Jackson, setting in motion a plan that resulted in a proper retirement party when the flight landed in Baltimore. Video captured Captain Jon Jackson receiving a warm welcome upon arrival, including a bottle of champagne and a cheering crowd.
A crowd cheered him at the gate, and Baltimore Airport Fire and Rescue met the aircraft with a traditional water cannon salute.
