SpaceX Completes IPO After February 2026 xAI Merger, Adds Board Members for Public Investors

SpaceX completed an IPO after folding xAI into the company in an all-stock deal in February 2026. 25 trillion private company that includes rocket operations, satellite services, and artificial intelligence before shares reached public investors. Elon Musk founded SpaceX in an El Segundo, California warehouse in 2002.

He remains cofounder, CEO, chairman, and chief technical officer. Musk sets the vision while the rest of the organization executes, according to COO Gwynne Shotwell. Gwynne Shotwell joined SpaceX in 2002 as its 11th employee and became president in 2008.

She oversees a full-time workforce of 22,000 and manages customer and strategic relationships. Since the February 2026 merger, she also formally helps oversee xAI’s operations. Mark Juncosa joined SpaceX in 2005.

He advanced from senior director of structural engineering in 2011 to vice president of structures engineering in 2013 and vice president of vehicle engineering in 2015. He oversees development of Starlink satellites, Falcon 9, and Falcon Heavy and is associated with day-to-day operations at the Starbase facility on the Texas Gulf Coast. Bret Johnsen has served as SpaceX’s sole CFO since 2011.

He previously restructured debt and raised valuation fifteenfold at Mindspeed Technologies during the 2008 financial crisis. Following the xAI merger, he took over xAI’s financial operations in February 2026. William Gerstenmaier began his NASA career in 1977 and was on the console for the first Space Shuttle flight in 1981.

He served as NASA’s Associate Administrator for Human Exploration and Operations from 2005 to 2019. He joined SpaceX as a consultant in February 2020 and was elevated to vice president of Build and Flight Reliability in 2021. Charles Kuehmann has served as vice president of materials engineering at both SpaceX and Tesla Motors since December 2015.
