Spain defeated France in the World Cup semifinal at Dallas Stadium and will face Argentina in the final on Sunday at the same venue, ESPN reported. Midfielder Rodri recorded 11 duels won, 87 percent pass completion, four tackles and two ball recoveries as Spain limited France's chances.
Spain limited France to minimal chances, with the second goal by Pedro Porro sealing the result after Rodri collected a loose ball and recycled possession.
Across the tournament Rodri recorded 794 touches, 655 completed passes and 106 line-breaking passes, totals that led all players. Coach Luis de la Fuente called Rodri the backbone of Spain's midfield after the team restricted France's top attackers. Rodri returned to form this summer after a knee ligament injury that threatened his career.
He had scored in the 2023 Champions League final, helped Spain win the 2024 Euros and earned the world's best men's player award that year. Nine months after the injury he played in a 5-2 Club World Cup win over Juventus before an early exit against Al Hilal ended Manchester City's run. De la Fuente said Spain's collective strength overcame a France side featuring several top attackers.
Rodri's understated display allowed Spain to maintain possession and limit France's opportunities throughout the match.
