Catalan police arrested Jonathan Andic on Tuesday and are questioning him over the death of his father, Mango founder Isak Andic, nearly 18 months earlier. The 71-year-old retail executive died in December 2024 after falling approximately 100 metres down a ravine while hiking in the Montserrat mountain range with his son.

Initial police findings treated the incident as an accident, and a judge closed the case in January 2025.

Mossos d’Esquadra reopened the inquiry later in 2025 after identifying inconsistencies in Jonathan Andic’s account of events. He was the only person present when the fall occurred near the Salnitre caves in Collbató. Investigators had previously seized Jonathan Andic’s cell phone.

Reports also cited testimony from Isak Andic’s partner, professional golfer Estefania Knuth, describing tensions between father and son over Jonathan’s role at Mango.

The Andic family issued a statement last year saying they would cooperate with authorities and expressed confidence that Jonathan Andic’s innocence would be proved. Isak Andic was born in Istanbul in 1953 to a Sephardic Jewish family and moved to Barcelona in the late 1960s.

He opened the first Mango store on Passeig de Gràcia in 1984 with his brother Nahman. The company now operates roughly 2,850 stores in more than 120 markets and employs over 16,000 people. 5 billion. Jonathan Andic joined Mango in 2005, later took responsibility for the Mango Man division, and became vice chairman of the board.

He has denied any wrongdoing and maintains that his father’s death was accidental. Catalonia’s High Court said the investigation remains under judicial secrecy and released few additional details.
