A special counsel team announced July 13 that it has summoned former first lady Kim Keon Hee for questioning over alleged irregularities in the 2022 relocation of the presidential residence. The team led by special counsel Kwon Chang-young scheduled the session for Sunday morning, assistant special counsel Kim Ji-mi said at a press briefing.
Yonhap reported that investigators plan to question her about allegations she was involved in selecting the interior design company 21 Gram for the project.
The team suspects 21 Gram won the renovation contract for the new residence in Seoul's Yongsan Ward despite being unqualified, citing its past ties to the former first lady. Kim is the wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol. Incumbent President Lee Jae Myung has returned the presidential residence and office to Cheong Wa Dae.
The office had been moved to the defense ministry compound under Yoon.
