Spring & Mulberry Expands Chocolate Bar Recall to Entire Product Line Over Salmonella Concerns
The Raleigh, N.C.-based company expanded its recall on Friday to cover all flavors of its date-sweetened chocolate bars after an investigation identified a single lot of date ingredient as a possible source of salmonella contamination. The products were sold online and through select retail partners nationwide since August 2025.
nypost.comA specialty chocolate company on Friday expanded its recall of date-sweetened chocolate bars to include its entire product line over concerns of possible salmonella contamination. Spring & Mulberry, which is based in Raleigh, N.C., sells the bars for $10 each or $95 for a variety pack.
The company said an investigation by its manufacturers and the FDA identified a single lot of date ingredient as the likely source of the potential contamination. The recall now covers all of the brand’s candy bar flavors. These include Blood Orange, Coffee, Earl Grey, Lavender Rose, Mango Chili, Mint Leaf, Mixed Berry, Mulberry Fennel, Pecan Date, Pure Dark, Pure Dark Mini and Sea Salt, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
Recalled products were sold online and through select retail partners nationwide since August 2025. Consumers can identify the affected bars by checking the lot and batch codes on the back of the packaging and the inner wrap. The company initially issued a voluntary recall on Jan.
12 of its Mint Leaf bars after routine third-party testing found salmonella in the finished product. Later that month it expanded the recall to several other flavors, noting that salmonella can be difficult to detect and sometimes appears intermittently.
The affected chocolates should not be consumed. com and should dispose of the product immediately, according to the FDA.
Salmonella can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in vulnerable populations, including children, elderly individuals or people with weakened immune systems. In rare cases the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause serious infections, endocarditis or arthritis.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with the recalled products to date, the FDA said Friday. All products included in the expanded recall have tested negative for salmonella. The recall includes all finished candy bars made with the identified lot of date ingredient.
