St. John’s will start 6-foot-11 center Ruben Prey next season after he spent the past two years as backup to Zuby Ejiofor. The school announced the move Monday along with several other roster signings for the coming year.

“We expect big things from Ruben,” coach Rick Pitino said. “He’s been very patient, very loyal, like Ian [Jackson]. ” The team had explored adding other centers through the transfer portal, including Massamba Diop of Arizona State, before confirming Prey’s role.
