Starmer Waits as Trump, Zelenskyy, Macron Arrive Late to Ukraine Session at G7
The British prime minister stood with Canadian and Japanese leaders more than 30 minutes after a Ukraine meeting was due to begin. No bilateral meeting with Trump had been scheduled.

More than 30 minutes after the scheduled start, Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron had not arrived. Keir Starmer stood next to the leaders of Canada and Japan while making small talk on a live Reuters feed.
Starmer was heard asking. Starmer arrived at the Hotel Royal, the G7 venue on the shores of Lake Geneva, on 16 June 2026. No bilateral meeting between Starmer and Trump was planned at the summit. Starmer and Trump sat next to each other for two hours during the leaders-only dinner on Monday evening.
Starmer spoke with Trump by phone on Saturday for quite some time. Starmer stated he was not “going to walk away” if Andy Burnham is elected in the Makerfield byelection. He told Times Radio he would “fight” if there was a leadership challenge.
The UK announced a £210m energy support package for Ukraine. Starmer held a bilateral meeting with Zelenskyy. Starmer announced that the second UK-EU summit would be held on 22 July. French and Indian companies announced investments into British energy infrastructure and AI that the government said would deliver more than 1,000 jobs.
Starmer and his wife Victoria went for a drink with Canadian prime minister Mark Carney.
