StarTech Releases Driverless USB4 Dock for Dual 4K Displays on MacBooks
StarTech has introduced a USB4 docking station that supports two external 4K displays on M3 and later MacBooks without requiring drivers. The dock also works with Windows and Linux systems and includes 100W power delivery plus a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port.
ForbesStarTech has released the 208N-USB4-DOCK, a USB4 docking station that can drive two 4K displays on MacBooks with M3 or newer processors without any additional drivers or software. The company states the dock is the first of its kind to provide native dual-display support on these MacBooks.
It also functions with Windows and Linux devices, allowing a single model to be deployed across mixed operating-system environments.
5 Gbps Ethernet port. It lacks media-card slots and an audio jack. A screw-locking USB-C host cable is included to reduce accidental disconnections in shared workspaces. The unit also features Kensington K, Nano, and Noble Wedge security slots.
StarTech reports the dock delivers Thunderbolt 4-level video performance through USB4 technology at a lower cost than typical Thunderbolt docks. It supports resolutions up to 8K at 60 Hz or 4K at 240 Hz. The company says it tested the dock with more than 100 monitor brands in its Innovation Lab to verify dual-display reliability.
